In 1998 a leading synthetic turf manufacturer and a highly regarded sports facility construction company merged to form Sports Technology International (STI). Advanced Polymer Technology (APT) controlled the manufacturing division with STI (later to become Polytan) managing the construction side of the business. The enigmatic and symbiotic nature of the business produced success after success, making STI the market leaders in synthetic sports surfaces and sports facilities.
In 2008 STI was purchased by German-based global equity fund Sport Group GmbH, which owned several other sports related companies at the time. One of these companies was Polytan – Europe’s leading synthetic sports surfacing company, and before long STI began to strategically align themselves with Polytan, before officially rebranding to Polytan in 2014. In 2019 Polytan celebrated 50 years of making sport.
